PCIe Gen4 is the fourth generation of the PCI Express specification. As the subsequent iteration of Gen3, Gen4’s data transfer rate is twice that of PCIe Gen 3, enabling PCIe Gen 4 devices to transfer data at a faster speed. PCIe Gen3 operates at a data transfer rate of 8 GT/s (gigatransfers per second), which translates to roughly 1 GB/s (gigabits per second) per PCIe lane.
